San Ramon Toothaches

Toothaches happen all the time for various reasons. Often food gets stuck between teeth and can irritate the gums, resulting in a toothache. To relieve a toothache, rinse your mouth out with water to try and remove any left over food particles or debris.

Broken, Fractured, or Displaced Tooth

For a tooth that has fallen out, if possible, place it in its original spot until you are able to visit your dentists in San Ramon, CA, at Innovative Dental Concepts.

A broken, fractured, or displaced tooth is no reason to panic. Remain calm and contact your dentist as soon as possible. Although it isn't anything to fret over, it is still important that you take immediate action. To avoid swelling, rinse out your mouth and place a cold cloth or compress on the cheek near the injured tooth.

If you are unable to place the tooth in its original spot, place it in warm milk, saline, or water to keep it moist. It is important that it remains wet until you have arrived at the emergency room or dentist's office. If your tooth has fallen on the ground, be very gentle when retrieving it, and be sure to hold it by the crown and not the root; this will prevent further damage!

For a fractured tooth, rinse your mouth out with warm water, place a cold cloth or compress on your cheek near the injury, and take aspirin to keep the swelling down. Severe fractures may require a tooth extraction, but often our dentists are able to restore the original tooth.

If a child's primary tooth is loosened by an incoming permanent tooth, have them gently bite down on an apple or a piece of caramel. This will help to free the primary tooth from the gums and allow the new tooth to come in.
